Overview
Heat is widely available in the ground, and also in the air around your house. These natural sources of heat are constantly replenished by the sun, wind and rain. A heat pump system will harness these free and renewable energy sources for heating your house and supplying hot water at a very low cost. The role of the heat pump is to pump us heat from a low temperature source, for example the ground under your lawn and release it at a higher temperature into your central heating system.
Heat pumps are very economical, for every unit of electricity used to power the heat pump, 3 to 4 units of heat are generated. They work best with low temperature heat distribution systems e.g under floor heating systems. They are most efficient when used at night. A buffer store is required to maximise efficiency as this allows the heat pump to store heat on a constant basis, releasing it when it is required.
Sizing and Design
A Heat Pump is sized by:
1. Determining heat loss of your home
2. Determining the heating design temperature for your area
3. Determining the capacity of the selected heat pump
4. Subtracting this capacity from capacity required for your home
When installing a heat pump into an existing dwelling it is critical to ensure that a building is already sufficiently insulated and the existing heating system is compatible. If insulation levels are inadequate then the heat pump will not be as efficient as it could be.
The existing system will also need to be surveyed to ensure that all radiators are compatible for use with the heat pump.
Equipment
A-Rated Energy are suppliers and installers of the Mitubishi Ecodan range of Heat Pumps.
Many have heard of ground source Heat Pumps and the high efficiency levels that they can offer, but few have realised that air source heat pumps can offer significantly higher levels of efficiency when compared to traditional methods of heating our homes.
Air source heat pumps are much easier to install than ground source so they are more suitable for a wide range of properties.
The Ecodan air source heat pump consists of an external box which is fitted to your outside wall. Its harvests renewable low grade energy from the outdoor air and upgrades this into useful heat to supply a home with hot water and heating.
Costs and Payments
